In this post, Gadget Cage are going to check about Apple iPad 3 Release Facts and Fiction. The rumors fly across the web yet again. It’s not a secret that Apple’s name is whispered in the rumors. All year speculation of the iPad 3 release has been the topic of blogs, tweets, and inner office shop talk. The hype is building and the facts are being separated from fiction.

The first rumor was the release date. Most believed the end of 2011 would give iPad lovers a new toy under the Christmas tree. That however, doesn’t appear to be the case. One supplier of parts for the new iPad has reported that Apple has ordered parts to build 1.5 million iPad 3’s in the fourth quarter. Making the release date speculated at early 2012. That will offer enough time for the iPhone 5 to make its mark this holiday season.

A true fact of the new iPad 3 is the display, with the current display of 1024×768 being bumped up to a 2048×1536 9.7”. Another change that is taking place and has been confirmed is the development of the A6 processor that will power the iPad 3. Though Samsung held the contract for the A4 and A5 processor that is the heart of most of Apples i-gadgets, Apple is looking elsewhere for the production of the new chip.

Another rumor flying around is the sale of a cheaper iPad 3. This rumor is based on reports that Verizon and AT&T may be allowed to subsidize the price of the iPad 3 with the signing of a service contract. This was not allowed with the previous releases of the iPad and iPad 2, and still has not been definitively confirmed. The market seems right for a cheaper iPad, which will allow others to enter the tablet market that earlier was not able to afford it. The suspected price would be $199 with a two year contract. This would make it affordable to most and the difference in price would be made back in service charges and data plans.

It was leaked that the iPad 3 would be 4G LTE ready, something everyone hoped for with the iPhone 5. However, reports have stated that the iPhone 5 won’t be ready, but the iPad 3 will. Documents were leaked from AT&T showing they were ramping up to fully support 4G LTE networks in the near future. With the new tablet on its way, and the new patent on the smaller battery, it is fully possible incorporate 4G LTE in the new iPad, not to mention the only logical choice.

All in all Gadget Cage can expect to see a lighter, faster, cheaper and fully displayed iPad coming in the early months of 2012. The release will make a fantastic start to a fantastic year for Apple and Apple enthusiasts.

Theoretically that security hole could lead others to develop malicious software that could could be used to attack your device – so once you’ve jailbroken you might want to download an app called PDF Patcher 2 from the Cydia store to prevent any other software from using the exploit. Unfortunately there’s no way to install the patch

Unofficial Swype Port

we can confirm it works, but it did take us two downloads via a repo with Cydia and functionality proved limited. We were able to swipe words in pre-loaded apps like Messaging, Mail and Search, but had no luck with Safari or others we’ve downloaded. Furthermore, Swype’s all-important blue trace-line is absent, and our words didn’t always come out as expected.
Swype Being Ported

Was an early entrant on the store and is similar to Swype, but is no longer available. An alternate keyboard within all your apps is something only jailbreak can make possible. I tried Swype on a friend’s Android phone once, and honestly I couldn’t wrap my head around it. But people who’ve grown accustomed to its somewhat quirky UI claim they type much faster with Swype and have missed having it on iOS, and now those users have a chance to try it out on the iPhone.

Swype Unofficially Available

Afterwhich, head on over to Cydia where you will find Andrew Liu’s new Swype iOS port. As Engadget reports, “we were able to swipe words in pre-loaded apps like Messaging, Mail and Search, but had no luck with Safari or others we’ve downloaded. Furthermore, Swype’s all-important blue trace-line is absent, and our words didn’t always come out as expected.” Liu announced on Twitter that its still a beta release and should have its kinks irone out soon enough. Until then it seem useable enough to give a go.

The hero: the iPhone 5. The sidekick: iOS 5 or, depending on how you look at it, the iPod touch 5. The hero and the sidekick always win. You know which team-ups rarely gel as well? The hero and the other hero. The iPhone 5 needs the iPad 3, the iPad HD, the iPad XYZ (or whatever Apple is calling) to launch alongside it like the world needs another auto-tuned pop singer who can’t actually sing. This talk of the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 co-headlining Apple’s fall press event is just not sound strategy, and Apple’s patterns of rollouts over the past five years demonstrates that. The iPhone 5 launch this fall must either be a solo show or one in which side dishes complement the iPhone 5 entree. With this next generation representing such a pivotal time in iPhone history, Apple owes it to give the iPhone 5 the primary spotlight and not a co-headlining tour. The iPad 3, whether it be by a month or by half a year, can wait for another day.

So does that mean the iPhone is more important to Apple than the iPad? Not necessarily. It just means that when the iPad 3 arrives, it’ll be inheriting ninety-something percent marketshare of a still-small market from its predecessor the iPad 2 and will still be so ahead of the sales curve that most would-be tablet buyers are making a decision between the iPad and no tablet at all, not between the iPad and some competing tablet. That stands in sharp contrast with the hole Apple has dug itself through the first four years of the iPhone era – and nearly all of it springs from three capital letters and an ampersand…

Having the original iPhone available on AT&T? Good. Having it only available on AT&T? Not so much. Not only did Apple learn the hard way that folks on Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile (and other carriers shut our in other nations as part of Apple’s one-carrier-per-nation approach) were more keen to stick with their preferred carrier and settle for whichever Brand B smartphone was sold to them than to jump ship to AT&T for the iPhone they wanted, Apple also unwittingly created a vacuum by which a middling jalopy of a mobile operating system like Android could gobble up the customers which Apple passed on by tying the iPhone to AT&T. Now these folks are using an Android which they have no real interest in staying with (unless they’re the kind of hardcore technology geek which the Linux-based Android was designed for), and Apple must find a way to light a fire under them in order to get them to move to the iPhone 5. And Apple has lined up a number of ducks in order to make that happen with the iPhone 5 launch. But does this sound to you like the kind of launch which should be co-headlined with another major product launch such as the iPad 3 or iPad HD?

Apple has recruited Verizon for the iPhone 5 launch after having soft-launched a Verizon iPhone 4 a few months ago which has already accounted for about a third of all iPhone 4 sales going back to the device’s launch last summer. That tells you the kind of momentum the iPhone already has on Verizon, and just how overwhelmingly popular the Verizon iPhone 5 will be. There’s also talk that the iPhone 5 could expand to the other long-shunned carriers. Apple is also set to navigate the tricky 4G and 4G LTE waters with the iPhone 5 one way or the other, and must use the device’s launch date as a platform for explaining directly to the mainstream public why it is – or isn’t – going the 4G route with the iPhone 5. After that, the carriers’ voices will take over, and they’re each bent on pushing 4G as the great new thing while expecting hardware manufacturers to have to explain to customers why 4G LTE exists almost nowhere and why the other 4G offerings out there are nearly as slow as 3G. Again, not a time when Steve Jobs wants to be pulling the iPad 3 out of his other pocket and trying to sell the world on its features as well.

Apple holds its dedicated press events in order to get its message directly to the general public via live streams and the reporting of legitimately mainstream (read: non-geek) publications, without having to pass through the warped filter of technology geeks who control the headlines of most tech-specific publications and just happen to despise Apple for catering to the mainstream instead of pandering to geek preferences with its products. Holding iPhone 5 and iPad 3 events in separate months (or separate years, if the iPad 3 really is to be a 2012 product) allows Apple to deliver its message directly to the people and dominate the mainstream tech headlines for a day. After that, it’s up to the carriers to mangle that message and the geeks to twist into some kind of anti-Apple fantasy. Apple gets one shot at launching the iPhone 5 in this manner, and should know better than to muddle its one shot at a crystal clear message by attempting to cram two major product launches into the same headline cycle. Here’s more on the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 and iPad 3 are without a doubt the best kept trade secrets this year, with just about every media outlet trying to dig up some intel on both of Apple’s upcoming products.

While most have resorted to looking for scoops via industry insiders and those sources “close to Apple”, Samsung has taken a different path. The Korean manufacturer has requested the court to ask Apple to hand over the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 so that they can see they may not be infringing on the Cupertino based company’s designs.

This comes after Apple had accused Samsung of copying their current generation iPad 2 and iPhone 4 for their Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy S2. As such, Samsung was ordered to hand over to Apple a couple of their upcoming products so Apple’s lawyers can confirm if Samsung’s next line of products are continuing with the same trend. As such, Samsung has requested Apple do the same.

According to The Inquirer, “Apple has responded to this request by calling Samsung’s request “misconceived”, “simplistic” and “unavailing”. It said that its claim that Samsung infringed its patents relates to current products, not future products, and that seeing those future products could have no relevance to Samsung’s defence.”

If you want to turn your iPad into a phone and make regular calls, you now have the chance to do so with the PhoneIt-iPad app. As you might remember, we wrote earlier about PhoneIt-iPad app while it was still in development stage, but now let’s see what the final release has to offer.

iPhoneIslam is the developer of PhoneIt-iPad app that turns your tablet into a 10-inch phone that can send and receive text message and make regular calls without any problems. In order to use the full power of this app you’ll need a regular 3G SIM card instead of data-only SIM cards that you get with your iPad, and after replacing your SIM card, you’re ready to make calls and send text message with your iPad. We have to mention that this app requires you to have a jailbroken iPad device, so keep that in mind.

Anyhow, if you want to use your iPad as a cell phone, you just need $20 to get this app from the Cydia store and a jailbroken iPad.

Apple has filed suit against Samsung for copying the design of its iPad and iPhone with its smartphones and tablets. The 38 page suit goes into detail, showing side by side comparisons of all the ways they feel that Samsung has copied their design. They even show images of the packaging and some icons used by Samsung as part of their case. Apple is also in legal battles with Motorola, Amazon, and Nokia over smartphone and software designs, making this suit against Samsung just one of the many already circling the courts. It is expected that both companies will choose to settle, since going into a long dirty drawn out court fight would have a negative impact over their other business affairs, like the fact that Samsung makes the microchips that Apple uses in its products.

Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar says that Apple’s next-generation iPad, expected to be refreshed in March and entering the product line as a second generation tablet, will be equipped with a dual-core processor. The current generation Apple iPad tablet was launched with Apple’s customized A4 processor, which is clocked at 1 Ghz of power. Kumar believes that the next iPad iteration will come with a dual-core ARM Cortex A9-based processor with 1 Ghz of computing power per core. Kumar did not specify if Apple will customize the CPU, like it had done with the A4, or will use components from suppliers such as NVIDIA with its Tegra 2 chipset that is expected to be widely available on a number of tablets and smartphones in 2011.

Although some solutions have been available to bring the Flash animations on IOS, in particular with the use of an instrument signed Adobe (later abandoned), a developer was able to install the Flash Player to Apple’s terminal, allowing graphics animation with native fluency. Comex, which is responsible for the implementation of the jailbreak “Spirit”, has managed to run a real Flash Player on a iPad.

“Frash” is the result of porting environment for the implementation of Flash for Android. Frash allows playback of most Flash animations natively by Safari Internet browser. The extension currently only works on iPad, while 4 and iPhone 3G will be supported in coming months. Frash will be made available free of charge, when its final version will be stable. If the final release will be effective, this utility (which fills a lack of iPhone and iPad) is likely to be discharged by the holders of terminals Unofficial Apple App Store.

The first consequence will surely be the removal of customers from Apple’s App Store. The only solution company in Cupertino is to retrace his steps and accept Flash. What will happen?

Acer will not achieve an anti-iPad. The president of Acer Taiwan, Scott Lin, said the company does not jump on the train of the Tablet PC. Lin said that this is not a choice dictated by technical challenges, but a choice of business.

The old notebook and netbook will not be overwhelmed by iPad

“Apple is able to support the ecosystem iPad through iTunes. [...] Historically, closed platforms have proved limited in terms of scale and remain confined to niche markets. Apple has built its business by opening their niche, the which means that while Apple may have success with iPad, other farmers are unlikely to be as successful simply by copying it, “said Lin.

Acer is not convinced that iPad will impact on the notebook and netbook markets, because they are two completely different sectors. After selling 31 million notebooks in 2009, the company expects sales of traditional notebook equal to 50/60% of the total in 2010, with 20% netbook and ultraportable between 20 and 30 percent. Among the novelties on the agenda for this year, the giant Taiwanese aims to disseminate the notebook with thickness of less than 2 centimeters.

Although Macmillan is selling its electronic books for iPad at 12.99 dollars or 14.99 dollars, the same copies are sold on Amazon for the price competitive 9.99 dollars. In a statement, Amazon says they have no choice: “In the end we capitulate and accept the conditions of Macmillan, as the publisher holds the monopoly on some titles and we would have had to offer at a price too high for an ebook” .

For this reason, Amazon has decided to remove the titles published by Macmillan, as a sign of disagreement. And ‘interesting to note that the sale of books through Amazon will prove more convenient for the publishing house, but the moment remains firm on his decisions. With the commercialization proposal to 12.99 and 14.99 euros, Apple has managed to win at least five of the six largest publishers: Macmillan, Hachette, Penguin, Harper Collins and Simon & Schuster.

If the news published by the Wall Street Journal were confirmed, the publishing houses of favoring a relatively high selling price in the long term, hoping that the success of iTunes in the music business and mobile applications, will also move to electronic books.
