The device is powered by the Android 2.1 operating system. Sources claim that the device is handy with just 9.5mm thickness and weighing just 260g.

It supports audio, music, games and recording functions, and is also WiFi enabled. The microSD card slot allows memory expansion as per user needs. The E-EMI reader is capable of surviving up to 15 days without recharging the battery.

A few months ago when we first spoke with the folks behind the Entourage eDGe dual-screen eReader/netbook/tablet they told us they were working with Android app developers to create or modify apps that would work on the device’s larger screens. One such app they hoped to procure for the launch was Documents To Go by DataViz which would allow eDGe users to open, edit and create MS Office documents out of the box. Today the company officially announced that the software will be available on the dualbook and, even better news, users won’t have to pay extra.

Orders for the eDGe placed before February 1st will still go for the originally announced price of $490 with the software. After that day the price will go up to just $499, which is still a deal since the app itself goes for $29.99 alone. We’ve previously hailed the BlackBerry version of Documents To Go as one of the Top 10 Apps for the platform. Hopefully the Android version will live up to that.

It looks like the eDGe will have a leg up on Plastic Logic’s Que as users can’t actually edit documents on the latter device. We’re hoping that the app allows users to choose on which display the files appear — electronic paper or LCD. That would add a welcome layer of functionality and convenience.

We’ll have our review unit of the eDGe in a few weeks and we’re looking forward to seeing how well this and other apps work with this new kind of device.
