Verizon has just made it official: the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX is going to hit store shelves this week. As its name suggests, this is going to be an alternate version of the Droid RAZR with a battery almost double the size.

Droid RAZR MAXXIts 3300mAh battery is rated at 21 hours of talk time, 7 hours or web surfing, 15 hours of video, or 60 hours of listening to music. Despite its larger battery, the RAZR MAXX is still going to be quite thin — just 9 mm.

The device was unveiled at CES a few weeks ago, at which time its price was revealed: $300 with a new two-year customer agreement. It is now known that this Motorola smartphone is going to launch on Thursday, January 26.

Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX Overview
This handset is going to debut running Android OS 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) but an upgrade to OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is coming later. At its heart is a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor with with 32GB of total memory (16GB built in, 16GB microSD card).

The MAXX will sport an 8MP rear-facing camera and Verizon’s 4G LTE, plus 3G EV-DO. The smartphone will also have a 1.3 MP front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and more.

The tablet industry seems to have changed a lot in the last month after the introduction of budget 7 inchers like the Amazon Kindle Fire and the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet. How exactly? The prices seem to be going down each day and more affordable slates are starting to flood the market and the Acer Iconia Tab A200 is going to be one of them. But what’s unique about the A200 is that it sports a large 10.1-inch display but its price is still very affordable, starting at just $329.99. If you’ve already started drooling, let us also mention that the Acer Iconia Tab A200 release date is set for January 15th.

Also, while initially it will ship with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, Acer is promising to update it swiftly to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in mid-February.

There’s no catch, if you don’t count the fact that the most basic $330 version features only 8 gigs of internal memory. That’s not fatal, though, as there’s a microSD expansion card slot. Under the hood, the Iconia Tab A200 runs on a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip. The 10.1-inch display comes with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and the battery is also pretty solid with a runtime of 8 hours on a single charge. Oh, and it has a full-sized USB 2.0 port for connecting your favorite devices and getting files on and off the tablet.

iPhone 5 Rumors – According to analyst Ashok Kumar in this Washington Post article, the next generation of the iPhone will have a slimmer design, larger screen and possibly LTE technology. However, these predictions seem awfully close to what many people were claiming the 4S would have, and are probably more of a wish list than actual predictions. Eventually, the iPhone line of devices will certainly get LTE technology, and it doesn’t make sense for Apple to wait too much longer, so it’s probably a safe bet that the iPhone 5 will have LTE, but anything beyond that looks to be pure speculation.

The iPhone 5 will take on a special place in the pantheon of Apple products, as it is likely to be the last major release the late Steve Jobs has a major hand in. Apple has a large enough rabid fan base to make the device a success, regardless of its performance, appearance or price.

iPhone 5 Rumors

The last piece of iPhone 5 news making its way around the Web shows just how strange the technology business is these days. According to this TG Daily article, Samsung will provide the A6 chips for the iPhone. This is remarkable as the two companies are locked in a massive patent battle that has them suing to stop releases in a number of countries around the world.

No set of iPhone 5 rumors would be complete without a made-up release date, and there are plenty to be found around the internet. The iPhone 5 release date rumors are spread out from the first quarter 2012 to the summer of 2012, and a few even suggesting that Apple will wait a full year before releasing the device. Apple shifted its release schedule slightly with the iPhone 4S, so all these rumors seem to be pure speculation, but a late spring or early summer release seems more feasible than one that’s only three or four months away from the 4S release date.

iOS 5 Release Date – Mobile security company Lookout has released Lookout Mobile Security for the iPhone, a dedicated safety protection application for iPhones and iPads via a new, free iOS app launching Tuesday.

According to Tech Crunch, Lookout designers zeroed in on a single, simple app to keep iPhone users safe. Developers started the development process by addressing current security risks facing iPhone users.

In a survey conducted by the security company, 93 percent of iPhone users said they have concerns about the security of the data stored in their phones. The survey also found that four out of every 10 iPhone users are unsure about the security of public WiFi and more than a third of users don’t regularly sync their devices.

Lookout’s new app addresses the safety issues for iPhone users. The mobile app includes a missing device feature as well as the option to use Lookout to help locate a user’s lost or stolen phone on a map or sound a loud alarm to find it nearby. The app explicitly instructs users through the necessary steps to secure their Apple devices.

With the addition of the iOS app, users can manage multiple devices from a dashboard on Lookout’s site including their iPad, iPhone and even Android phone or tablet.

However, one feature that is noticeably missing from Lookout’s iOS app is malware protection. Lookout previously launched a new mobile browsing application that automatically checks every website a user visits from an app, e-mail, or browser on a mobile phone to prevent phishing sites from stealing personal data and malware from being installed on a device.

According to Lookout, malware has not been an issue with iOS in the past so that’s why developers excluded it from the functionality of their new app.

Powered by Lookout’s Mobile Threat Network, which analyzes global threat data, Lookout seeks to protect a user before they are aware a threat of security exists.

Tech Crunch predicts that Lookout’s user base will expand with the iOS edition. Currently, Lookout has 12 million users and offers security services for a number of smartphone platforms including Android, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry.

Whether or not a new generation of the iPhone is indeed in the pipeline, many industry observers are beginning to feel as though Apple are somewhat losing the plot when it comes to actually naming the various generations of the device, in light of the recently released iPhone 4S. Despite the connotations of the new offering being the fourth generation, it has been suggested that the next release may be none other than the iPhone 6, which may make logical sense.

Last year’s original iPhone 4 was the very first to get its name fully correct and simple since the introduction of the original iPhone. The second generation was given the oft confusing handle of the iPhone 3G in light of its network technology, while the following and almost correctly named product was the equally garbled iPhone 3GS.

Now, the new iPhone 4S is essentially the fifth generation iPhone, which has led many to believe that Apple has indeed done the product and the company as a whole a discredit by naming the product in line with the fourth generation.

Needless to say, in light of massive expectations and the potential for sales of a biblical level, Apple are almost certain to go with the iPhone 5 handle at some point next year with whatever they may have up their sleeves, though technically speaking it will indeed be the sixth generation of the device.

Either way, impatient consumers are being advised not to hold their breath, as it is unlikely that the new iPhone 4S will be done away with at any point in the near future. It is more than likely that when the next iteration of the iPhone comes about it will be at least two years since the iPhone 4 was introduced, which would essentially mean that in a massive break to previous trends, a single generation of the iPhone will have been kept for an unprecedented 24 months.

Apple has until the release date of the iPhone 5 to get its iPhone naming conventions back in order, raising the issue of whether the next iPhone might more accurately be called “iPhone 6? in face of this month’s iPhone 4S revelation. Last year the fourth generation iPhone 4 represented the first iPhone to get its generational name quite correct. Before that the original iPhone was merely called “iPhone” while the second generation carried the confounding name “iPhone 3G” in reference to its network technology, while the third generation came the closest to having an accurate (if ultimately alphanumerical gibberish) name by being known as the iPhone 3GS. Now the iPhone 4S, which is the fifth generation iPhone unless Apple later tells us otherwise, swings and misses again on the accuracy-in-naming front by including a “4? in the name of the fifth gen model. If Apple gives into popular expectation next year and names the sixth generation model “iPhone 5? as most people are expecting, it’ll once again be missing the generational mark in the nomenclature; “iPhone 6? would be the more technically accurate name. But part of Apple’s decision making process on what to call the next iPhone might have a lot to do with just how soon it arrives and what its plans are for the 4S once that happens…

<ins><ins id="aswift_1_anchor"></ins></ins>

Best anyone can tell, the iPhone 4S was supposed to be a mere sideshow. Apple wanted to wipe the slate clean by burying the fragmented iPhone 4 (or keeping it around in a low key manner as a free-with-contract phone) while introducing the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S as the next generation. The iPhone 5 would have been the flagship model, priced two to four hundred dollars and sporting a radical hardware redesign, while the 4S would have been the bargain-ish model which consisted of some of the new iPhone 5 hardware features stuffed into the old iPhone 4 shell. Gone would be separate iPhone 4 models for AT&T and Verizon, replaced with two new iPhone iterations which could each talk to AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint at will. But that all went up in smoke when the iPhone 5 simply didn’t happen this year, either due to manufacturing issues or design flaws or whatever it was that had Apple up there sheepishly introducing the iPhone 4S by itself last week as if it a headlining product. Even amid record setting iPhone 4S pre-sales and a retail launch next week likely to match it, others have turned their attention to the iPhone 5, which will see a release date at some point in 2012…

<ins><ins id="aswift_2_anchor"></ins></ins>

If that happens early next year, don’t expect Apple to bury the iPhone 4S so quickly. The new model will be called iPhone 5 despite being technically the sixth generation, and the 4S will stick around as the bargain bin model. But if the 4S continues to sell exceedingly well next year such that Apple opts to wait until summer or fall to replace it, that could change the equation. By that time Apple might feel it’s time to retire the iPhone 4 body style, which would have been on the market for two years or more, and ditch it in favor of a simultaneous launch of both an iPhone 5 and and iPhone 6. The latter would be the true headliner, while the former would be the bargain model. It would seem a radical move. But then the entire predictable iPhone revamp model has been tossed out the window by the fact that Apple waited until fall instead of summer 2011 to finally bring out the new model and then delivered an interstitial model instead of a true revamp. Now it’s up in the air as to whether to expect the iPhone 5 in the spring, summer, or fall of 2012. And it’s up in the air as to whether the technically sixth generation iPhone could end up bearing the “iPhone 6? name or whether we’ll have to accept yet another iPhone generation in which the number in its name doesn’t match the generation.
