Barnes & Noble today unveiled their latest Nook– the NOOK Tablet. It’s a brand new Android-loaded reading and entertainment tablet set to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire. For just $249, NOOK Tablet buyers will have access to a 7-inch VividView screen with proclaimed best-in-class viewing angles. But that’s not all, the NOOK Tablet sports a TI OMAP4 dual-core processor, a full gigabyte of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage. If that 16 GB isn’t enough, NOOK Tablet users are granted free Nook Cloud storage through the network. The display sports a 1024 x 600 resolution with 169 pixels-per-inch. It’s an IPS LCD with 16 million+ colors and no air gaps for the best indoor and outdoor viewing experience.
Reported battery life is about 11.5 hours of reading, and 9 hours of video playback. Although it doesn’t have the Android Market, the NOOK Tablet does include Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and a number of casual gaming applications. The NOOK Tablet’s unique operating system is based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
