STOCKHOLM, Sweden – A smartphone belonging to the GreenHeart series and running on Windows Mobile 6.5 is Sony Ericsson’s latest bet in the business segment, possibly ignoring the potential in Google Android’s hype.
The Sony Ericsson Faith portrays, according to the leak, a full QWERTY keyboard while having a candybar form factor. The device also features a 2.4″ touchscreen display, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, A-GPS, and supports microSD memory cards.
For the consumer, this handset is similar to most BlackBerry smartphones’ form factor, or even to that of certain Nokia Eseries, such as the E72.
The manufacturer has launched a powerful contender into the smartphone segment running on Google Android, the XPERIA X10. The latter handset is seen as a high-end smartphone and attracts consumers as it runs on the appealing Google Android operating system. For some reason, Sony Ericsson believes it should continue to provide for those who wish to continue using Windows Mobile, a platform seen as not very user-intuitive.
In this ever-evolving, volatile market, it is wise to keep all options open and addressing all members of the audience. The manufacturer may be playing the right cards if its approach is a managed one.
